Matthew 6:5,7 says that "When you pray, do not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in their churches and on street corners ... so that they can be seen by men".

Is it your motive to be seen and heard as a "very spiritual person" by others?

These verses go on to say, "Do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do ... for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking".

Jesus says that by praying in this way: their motive to be seen and heard ... they already have their reward of being seen and heard publicly ... but they will not receive any reward from God.
