Reverends Bob, Kendall, and Gerald did a series of television  programs about the different altars in the Scriptures. 

The base verse used was 1 Peter 2:5 telling us (born-again believers) that we are "Living Stones being built up into a spiritual house, a Holy Priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." 

Revealed in this teaching is that the Cross of Jesus was His Altar.  It was taken way outside of the city ... out in the "boon docks."   Crucificions during this time were done in either the temple area or around it, or outside the city limits.

Each one of us has our own altar.  The altar that Jesus had was the transition from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant. This was a one-time cross, a one-time altar and nobody else will ever have His altar ... either before or after that time. 

That altar contained the sacrifice of Himself for us ... Him being the Representative that everyone could see.
