Philippians 3:13b,14 NLT & The Message Bible ... I focus on this one thing (I've got my eye on the goal): forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, (I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back). I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
Before a Christian can arise and march out in a new spiritual character, he must be willing to throw off the chains of the past.
One of the chains of bondage that Satan will use to hinder you from going forward and obtaining a new spiritual victory is: ATTACK YOUR MEMORY. He'll remind you of all the times you have failed God. He'll remind you of all the times you've been hurt by other Christians. He'll remind you of all the problems you have faced.
Unless you are willing to let go of ... to forget ... all the hurts, critical attitudes, and fears that have developed as the result of those things that have happened in the past, you will be chained in bondage to the past.
This "forgetting" is a constant, deliberate discarding of all thoughts ... including past problems, defeats, and victories. Yes, even your victories. This forgetting of the past requires the taking of full control of your memories.
